My fellowship is having a sex trafficking awareness week next week!
So why am I posting about it now? On my health and fitness blog? ‘Caaaause I can and it’s relevant. Sex trafficking causes a whole slew of global public health problems that effect us all in some way at some point in our lives. I can honestly say I had no idea what kind of industry this was until recently but the figures and facts are horrifying.
There have been anywhere from 27 to 32 million people enslaved around the world in the past 30 years
A study done by the University of Pennsylvania in 2009 showed that300,000 CHILDREN in the U.S are at risk for being sexually exploited for commercial use
Girls as young as 5 and 6 years old can be trafficked
Every 2 minutes a child is being prepared for sexual exploitation
The total market value of illicit human trafficking is an estimated$32 BILLION

The bar code I have on me is to get people to ask “Hey! Why do you have the bar code on your neck?” so I start up conversations about this issue and I really encourage you all to do the same! Sex trafficking is the second largest criminal industry in the world and it isn’t brought to light as often as it should be, but you can help change that :)
